Chairmaker's Adze

$380.00
Only 3 available

The small bowl adze is forged from solid 4140 alloy steel. It has a hand crafted hickory or ash handle, stained and finished with a penetrating oil/varnish mix. This is the same head as my small bowl adze with flat center, only hung on a 12" hickory handle similar to my standard carving axe. The blade has an essentially flat section in the center and turned up lips on the corners. This gives a smoother finish than my standard small bowl adze, and is an excellent choice for carving chair seats. Blades are approximately 1 3/4" - 2" across. Overall weight varies between 26 - 30 oz.

Also see our handmade sheaths to go with the small bowl adze. Made from heavy vegetable tanned leather, these sheaths feature a heavy welt to protect the harness stitching. A brass roller buckle fastens the sheath in place. This is high quality edge protection for a high quality tool.
